My password has expired and I can't get on to Qube.

If you are in college you can change your password when you log in to the college network. If you are out of college you need to ask the IT Helpdesk to reset your password (01279 868090 during college hours).

I can't see my course on Qube

Not every course has content on Qube (although most do). Ask your tutor whether you should be able to see your course on Qube.

Back to FAQ List

My course is on Qube but when I click on it I get a message saying I am not enrolled.

Make sure you are clicking on the right course because some of them have very similar names. Another way to check is to look in the My Courses link in the Navigation block or click on My Courses  which appears at the top of every page, because these list only the courses you are enrolled in. When you click on the icons via the Course Zone button, all course names are shown whether or not you are allowed into them.

How do I get back to the front page of Qube?

Click on the word home in the breadcrumb trail or the Qube icon at the top of the page.

Back to FAQ List

How do I jump between courses?

You can click on any of your courses in the My Courses link in the Navigation block or click on My Courses  which appears at the top of every page

Back to FAQ List

Why is there no upload box for my assignment?

This could be because:

  • the assignment has now closed
  • the assignment is not yet open
  • you already uploaded something and the settings prevent resubmissions. Talk to your tutor.

Back to FAQ List

How can I see my recent assignment feedback?

There are many ways you can access feedback:

  • The most common method is simply by going to the same place where you uploaded the work.
  • Another method is to follow the link in the Activities block (if the teacher has included it on the course).
  • Another method would be to access the grade book and then follow the link for the required assignment.

Depending on how the assignment was set up, you may receive an email when it has been marked with a direct link to the feedback.

When I click on the link to a Word document, it opens directly in the browser. How can I open it in MS Word so that I can edit, save and/or print it?

PC Users: Right click on the link. Choose 'Save Target As'. Give the file a name and save it on the desktop. Then go to the desktop of your computer and double-click on the file to open it in Word. (NB: this will not work on the computers in any of the PC labs on campus.)
Mac Users: Hold down the Control key and click on the link. Choose 'Download Link to Disk'. Give the file a name and save it on the desktop. Then go to the desktop of your computer and double-click on the file to open it in Word.

Can I use Qube on a Mac?

Yes you can. However, you may find that it works better in Firefox rather than the Safari browser.
Also, if you regularly use a Mac in college, remember that you will have to reset your Qube password when it expires (usually every 90 days). If you don't do this you may find yourself locked out of Qube.

I get a blank screen when I try to open a Powerpoint or other Office documents in Internet Explorer

If you are finding that PowerPoint documents (and Word, Excel etc) don't display well in your Internet Explorer (IE) browser, either prompting you for a password or just showing a blank screen, then you are encountering a well-known problem with IE.
The best solution is to alter your settings so that IE doesn't try to embed the Office documents within its own display, and instead, will download the document and tell PowerPoint to display the document normally (as a helper application).
Here's how to change the setting (in Windows):

  • Double-click My Computer.
  • On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  • On the File Types tab, in the Registered file types box, click to select the file type that you want to change. For example, click to select PPT Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation.
  • Click Advanced.
  • In the Edit File Type dialog box, click to clear the "Browse in same window" check box, and then click OK.
  • Click Close to close the Folder Options dialog box.

Alternatively you can use a different browser like Firefox, or Opera...

Messages don’t pop up when I get an instant message in Qube

Check that your web-browser allows pop-ups – see above. Also if you have the Google toolbar installed, this needs to have the pop-up blocker turned off.

Contact your Tutor. You can send your Tutor an instant message on Qube - look for their name in the 'Participants' block in your course page.
